Britain’s Minister for Europe reiterates commitment to Cyprus settlement |

Minister for Europe, Jim Murphy MP, this week told Cypriots that Cyprus remains his personal priority as a foreign policy objective. At a joint event organised by the Greek Cypriot Brotherhood, the Labour Cypriot Society, AKEL in Britain and EDEK UK, at Labour’s annual party conference in Manchester, Mr Murphy who will make an official visit to Cyprus in early October, pledged the British Government’s support to the direct negotiations currently under way between President Demetris Christofias and Turkish Cypriot leader Mr Mehmet Ali Talat.

Thousands of UK Cypriots petition the Prime Minister and Rally for Justice |
|
UK Cypriots and British politicians across the political spectrum turned out in force today to condemn Turkey’s continuing illegal military occupation of the northern part of Cyprus, and to demand that the UK Government, as a guarantor power of Cyprus’s independence, act decisively to press Turkey to withdraw its occupying army and to work actively for a solution of the island’s division which will be for the benefit of the people of Cyprus.
